Favorite part of a wedding ceremony?
Hi Everyone! My DF and I are writing our wedding ceremony, and I was wondering if you all have any favorite parts you've seen of wedding ceremonies? Favorite readings, vows, etc? Would love any ideas or inspiration from you all!!

RE: Favorite part of a wedding ceremony?
I requested a copy of a reading we heard at a wedding because it knocked my socks off. I have to go dig it up and see if I still end up sockless several years later, or if it was just an "at that time" thing for me. Either way I'll post it here so that you can see what happens to your own socks.

Yay, it was easy to find in my folder of saved mushy stuff. Here you go.

Blessing for a Marriage
James Dillet Freeman

May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitement marriage should bring,
and may life grant you also patience, tolerance, and understanding.

May you always need one another -
not so much to fill your emptiness, as to help you know your fullness.
A mountain needs a valley to be complete;
the valley does not make the mountain less, but more;
and the valley is more a valley because it has the mountain towering over it.

May you need one another, but not out of weakness.
May you want one another, but not out of lack.
May you entice one another, but not compel one another.
May you embrace one another, but not encircle one another.

May you succeed in all important ways with one another,
and not fail in the little graces.
May you look for things to praise, often say, "I love you!"
and take no notice of small faults.
If you have quarrels that push you apart,
may both of you hope to have good sense enough to take the first step back.

May you enter into the mystery which is the awareness of one another's presence,
no more physical than spiritual,
warm and near when you are side by side,
and warm and near when you are in separate room or even distant cities.

May you have happiness, and may you find it making one another happy.
May you have love, and may you find it loving one another.

Sharp mind, soft belly.

Awesome, thanks Hadley! Do you think it's nice to have readings done by guests? Is there a limit? We are having 50 people attend, and have found a BUNCh of readings we like

I enjoy when there are several readings during a wedding ceremony Smile

It's not a reading, but family is really important to us so we did the "San-San-Kudo" during our ceremony bonding our entire families together.

so tim and I did the sake and then we invited our entire family (parents and siblings on both sides) and we became one big family.

editing to add that DH and I drank sake, but since my family is mormon, we gave them juice.

RE: Favorite part of a wedding ceremony?
My daughter chose this reading for her wedding. I cried my eyes out when I first read it so when she asked me if i'd be willing to read it at the ceremony I had to say no. Her dad read it though......and I cried!

I will be there

If in the morning when you wake,
If the sun does not appear,
I will be here.
If in the dark we lose sight of love,
Hold my hand and have no fear,
I will be here.
I will be here,
When you feel like being quiet,
When you need to speak your mind I will listen.
Through the winning, losing, and trying we'll be together,
And I will be here.
If in the morning when you wake,
If the future is unclear,
I will be here.
As sure as seasons were made for change,
Our lifetimes were made for years,
I will be here.
I will be here,
And you can cry on my shoulder,
When the mirror tells us we're older.
I will hold you, to watch you grow in beauty,
And tell you all the things you are to me.
We'll be together and I will be here.
I will be true to the promises I've made,
To you and to the one who gave you to me.
I will be here.

Shelley, that poem just floored me. Do you know who wrote it? It's gorgeous.
