Pricenomics on Diamonds
http://blog.priceonomics.com/post/457685...e-bullshit

For those of you who are interested, this is a screed/economics/marketing analysis of the diamond industry. Interesting though not a new argument or anything.

(I tried to cut and paste the article but you can't see which are quotes or not, so it makes a lot less sense.)

RE: Pricenomics on Diamonds
I read that and agree with everything it said - however, all material things can be labeled (to a certain degree) as bullshit because nothing is worth the actual price we pay for it - it is priced according to how much people want it. So, that article could be the same for cars, boats, RVs, McMansions, etc. etc. etc.

Pricing stuff is all marketing technique - how much is the public willing to pay and how can we make them think it is worth what we are asking?

RE: Pricenomics on Diamonds
Yes, I don't NEED my LV bag, or my three pairs of Tory Burch shoes, but they make me happy!

Diamonds are beautiful to look at, and a natural miracle (like all gemstones) but hey their marketing is just nuts.
