double refraction
I am in the process of prepping some stuff for sale and taking pictures like a maniac. I captured something in a loose Moissanite that I've never gotten "on film" before.

Is this what the mysterious double refraction looks like? Or is this a reflection from the grate on Mr. Hadley's workshop light that I was using?

RE: double refraction
WOOHOO! It took me 13 years of daily wear and a few thousand photos of different stones over the years to finally see the Loch Ness Monster of Moissanite Land. I feel so silly that I've never seen it before, knowing that all those girls over on Wedding Bee can spot it from across a room. *gagging noises*

Jenn, if you guys have any use for that photo, go ahead and take it. Wink For reference, that's an old school 7mm RB.

RE: double refraction
Oooo, fascinating! That's really cool that you were able to capture it. I've been able to see it with a loupe before, but not many photos at all.

That's the first time I have seen it. Thanks Hadley.

Always wondered what it was.

Cool you captured it! But not to sound like a wedding bee girl, lol, I have seen it before a bunch of times Hide

Zircons do the same so maybe I'm used to it Wink

RE: double refraction
I thought I'd read that you could only see double refraction via the crown or pavillion facets? Maybe that was the angle of your camera?

RE: double refraction
I think it is easiest through the pavilion but whatever angle Hadley had it there made it visible.
